What to say,

I was privileged enough to accompany some very experienced stalkers from a you age, still got plenty to learn, Kaizen and all that but my experience to date:

Lots of small quarry from a young age with air rifle, .22lr, 17hmr and some varmenting with the 222
I do quite allot of squirrel trapping & shooting accounting for a few hundred each year, actively involved with the study & control of alien invasive species.
A bit of SG but more of a rifle man
Stalk over a few thousand acres, mainly small 'ish plots, largest one just 660 acres, no more than 50-60 deer a year, some years only 20-25, mainly roe, muntjac and a few fallow.
Shot on some special licences NE, NRW
6.5x55 for almost all of my stalking and fox shooting but use the 7mmRM too
Shoot competitively for a club and have several calibres that are used for different target disciplines
Not a re-loading nut/buff but work with physics so do what i can to develop some loads that fit my requirements

Blaser R93 fan, mainly for the scope changeability, invested in an expensive thermal so it's great to swap it on and off different calibres with the no loss of zero. the idea was originally to have one or 2 r93 stocks and actions and a selection of barrels but that soon changed to a selection of stocks and a selection of barrels.

Always happy to support those keen to start off learning the craft of stalking where possible, I've taken a few people out over the last couple of years and quite enjoy seeing people progress.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow R93 fan (although I've only got 1 stock and two barrels presently!)

Thanks,

My wife is very keen for me to have a clear out, I might post some on here soon. I somehow managed to buy 2x .22lr barrels / conversions. What calibres do you have?

Welcome to the site,

John
Many thanks, what's it like stalking up on those flat lands in Lincolnshire? i was working in Lincoln, Gainsborough way the other day, it reminds me of the huge plains of northern Serbia where the roe live in heards of 12 or more and generally keep a good 400+m away

I've got a .243 and .308 barrels but have been considering putting in a variation when things have returned to normal for a 6.5x55 so the .243 can become a dedicated NV foxing setup with the 6.5 being more of an all-round setup.

Don't know, last time I stalked was when I lived in the Highlands, five years ago. My failing health has left me in a wheel chair so I am now reduced to sub 12 ft lb air rifles and garden vermin. The Highland stalking was good though :)

Sorry to hear that, good to hear you're still shooting where you can.
