Introduction

Hi, I’m from Exmoor. Deer, sheep farmer with nearly 40 years experience. Just got a night vision scope for fox control and looking for thermal monocular.
Welcome! Sheep farmer here too, with deer as well.
You must be near Tim White down there - not tempted by exlana??
He's a character! Known him for years.
I just bought an Exlana tup.
The OP can't be that far from him.

Oh wow. Looove the Fallow. We started with Fallow but the supermarket wanted reds! Are yours English or Swedish? Much prefer fallow venison.
Just normal UK fallow. My foundation stock came from Scotland for one herd, and for my second herd they came from South Wales.
I spoke to a lot of chefs and restaurant owners (including some who were themselves stalkers) when I was researching the project initially and they all favoured fallow venison, so that was a good endorsement. Plus the fencing costs were less than for reds, and I was already experienced at handling fallow-sized carcasses.
I do my own culling and butchery on farm, and sell everything direct.

This was nearly 40 years ago mind haha. Interesting about the fencing though. We have always used one size fits all so to speak. Hubby is a marksman/slaughterman for DEFRA among others and I’m a butcher so, like you, we do it all ourselves. What part of the country are you in?

I can only suggest you get in touch with the SIG group, Tim White or think other chap is called Peter.... @VSS Any idea?
Peter Baber you're thinking of.
Anyway, Exlana now have a new guy responsible for promotion and marketing, so they have much more of a presence on social media now. Been a few bunches of ewes advertised on their Instagram page.

Only need 6' fence for fallow, so I was able to do a top-up to existing stock fencing by adding another run of net above the first. Much cheaper than pulling the whole lot down and starting all over with proper deer fencing.
North Wales based.

Ah yes. Ours are only six foot and we did exactly the same by just putting a second roll of pig netting above the first one. But we did run a high tensile electric wire in between.
