Good evening all

I shoot over a fair few farms for foxing some of my farms are just come as you please others I phone first .

Lambing is in full swing with us and I'm getting around my permissions as much as I can, I'm also getting calls off my farms who are having specific problems with foxes .

I was out last night ( Saturday )on one farm and rang another farm to tell them I will be popping over later . The farmers wife tells me that they have lost a few lambs to fox for over a week.

She tells me they didn't call me as their grandson's friend
" can shoot foxes " and he is going to pop over that evening and shoot the problem fox .

The lad who was going to pop over couldn't get to them until Saturday and they were loosing a lamb every other night and they have lost 4 lambs .

I say it's not a problem wish them good luck and tell her if he's unsuccessful get back to me and I'll see what I can do.

For my foxing I try and limit my light footprint on the ground, for night foxing I utilise NV , Thermal ,red led light , my caller is a Fox pro and various hand calls .

10:30am this morning the farmer is ringing me apologising for getting his grandson's friend in and if I have chance can I pop over as the lad was unsuccessful last night.

I pop over today and the farmer and wife are straight out to see me , he apologised for letting his grandson's friend have a go.

In the nicest way i can i tell him it's his prerogative whom he has on the land , as it's his property. I do try and explain that trying to bag a fox that others have hunted but failed only educates the fox makes it harder.

Farmer tells me his grandson's friend did see a fox
" but he couldn't shoot it as it was coming towards him"
The farmer asked me why you can't shoot a fox coming towards you ??? and I'm still scratching my head for the answer ???
( if any of you know please tell me and I'll let the farmer know why)

The farmer also tells me the lad was there for hours and hours driving about and shinning lots of bright lights everywhere .

So I pop over the farm at 7:30 this evening we chat havea quick cuppa a, I go and get myself set up in position.

15 mins later I pick up a vixen working her way through a field of ewes and newborn lambs , quick blast on the FP and she's coming in .

Bang ...vixen down , wait a few mins and intermittently call . 20 mins later puck up a big dog fox again working his way through the ewes and lambs . He even tries to grabbing one of the twin lambs off two ewes but they manage to keep him off .

I again give the FP a blast and he starts to come in to me , he seems to scent the shot fox and is inquisitive at it

Bang ...Fox two is down . I later call in to the farmer and show him the spoils of the evening the , the farmer i's over the moon .

So from leaving the house to getting back just over 2 hrs

He schitt himself, they bite you know lol.

A good night's foxing..
Suppose you could always offer to take the lad out with you and pass on your experience.

been lamping foxes for many a year and in my humble experience taking the farmers son with you is the worst thing you can do.
