Has anyone got Jack Pyke electronic ear defenders? Are they any good? I'm more interested in the sound quality, usability, battery life, etc. rather than the noise reduction. They will be used for hunting and not on a range.
Do yourself a favour and buy some CENS Minos. I did and they are a revelation.
I have used them for stalking and foxing with the rifles. For crow shooting (I could hear them coming from behind me).
I have also used them in a “scare house” Halloween park. Run by one of my friends, I chased people with a chainsaw. Handled the noise of the sound effects and saw without being overwhelmed.
I wish I had bought them sooner. They were on sale at £200 which is the price now (last time I looked). Worth the money.
No ear moulding, just some foam plugs that go on the electronics. The whole lot is a good fit in the ear. Unless you must have over ear muffs. They are a good SNR rating too.

That is one hell of a mental picture! Does your FEO know this?
Ive had two pairs over ten years, forget brand snobbery- they are great value for money.
I find them comfortable to wear, batteries usage is great and sound quality is spot on. Also mine (compared to others) are a slim design and very lightweight.

As it happens the FLD do know. A friend and I have helped since they started the Halloween shows. We both happen to have had our renewals before Christmas. He’d mentioned it to one of the ladies in the office. When I rang up it came up (due to appointments for visits or something).
She was relieved to hear that we use prop bars not the real thing.
All noise and peoples conception. The best scares where some of the other farmers. You got them twice, first the scare then the laugh as they realised the bar was plastic.
I am not certain what she thought of the pair of us, but it hasn’t affected our renewals.

The Jack Pykes look good for over ear muffs. With an NRR 25 they provide double the sound pressure protection of the Honeywell/Howard Leight ones at NRR 22.
I have an unbranded slimline pair similar which I use in addition to my electronic ear plugs if somebody turns up to the range with a muzzle brake.
The disadvantage I found with them for stalking was that I couldn't wear the hat I wanted to with them!
I ended up with the 3M Peltor LEP 100 ear plugs. 3M do the EEP 100 model now for just over double the price of the Jack Pyke price but they provide over 4 times the sound energy protection...and you can wear any hat you want! The LEP/EEPs have the advantages of rechargeable Li-ion batteries, lower cost and slightly more sound pressure protection than the CENS Minos...but they all have higher SNR ratings than the fitted CENS models or the over ear style muffs.
