Sold: Junior .410

Many thanks ES. Woudl you recommend number 7 or number 9 shot to get him started on clays? And no 5 or 6 for Squirrels/Pigeons?

I think that English #7 will do everything, clays, squirrels and pigeons. If OTOH the use of plastic wads is allowed for both the clays and the live quarry where you will be shooting then Eley .410" Trap 2 1/2" that use a plastic wad and 14 gram aks half an ounce of English #7 1/2 are hard to beat. The 19 gram are for 3" guns so not for your 2 1/2" chamber Webley!

Neither #5 nor #6 are to be advised as there are too many gaps in the pattern. Like an old dish cloth past twenty yards! In .410" 2 1/2" if you can get #9 it's good for clays out to twenty-five yards. In fact very good. And is also deadly on rats at fifteen yards. But as said if plastic wads aren't a problem I'd get the Eley Trap every day. And cheaper too!

I have one you can have free of charge, its rough, could do with a new spring which I might try and sort this weekend, if you head down the A1 to Bisley you'll likely pass me, I only used it for HD but now have a moderated 12b, but it goes bang when you pull the trigger and you won't mind if it gets scratched, only condition I put on, you also pass it on when its outgrown
What a diamond offer! You are a gent!

Yildiz 410 did my son well at 8 year old. By 9 years he now as has a 20g junior Yildiz - they grow out of them quickly so dont spend to much!
What height was your son then? I'm thinking about starting my 9yr old girl.... also I'd like a double barrel .410

I was lucky enough to be gifted a Webley Scott bolt action single shot, which would be just the thing to get him started on clays and squirrels.
A mate had one of these when i was younger. Relatively heavy but fun and dealt with much vermin. I had a very light folding single hammer action
The offer was very kindly sent by a fellow SD member after seeing my post. 👍
I will certainly be taking your advice on the cartridges. Thanks ES👍

I think double Barrel would be to heavy to start mate. I went with single and even that was to heavy to start.

My lad is 135CM tall and the 410 did him a year... he was smashing clays with it! So I changed to a double barrel 20g and thats still a bit heavy for him, but he's getting used to it, and smashing clays still!

yes very simular i think! Most grounds will have one to try before buying to be honest :) good luck in your search, hope she enjoys it!
