Kids boxing

Just wondering if anyones kids compete at boxing?

I do couple of things (blue belt in BJJ & 8yrs of krav maga) so my daughter wanted to join in. She's done bit of BJJ , and despite being really good she prefers impact. Loves her krav maga but would like one she could compete at. Wondering if anyone had experience of kids level boxing or kickboxing and how time consuming
competitions can be?

Cheers

Not a kid obviously but I teach bjj with them and train at a boxing gym. Grappling sports the competitions are very long days and the kids may or may not have just one or two matches unless you go to the big events.

Conversely striking comps tend to be about the same level of time but chances of having more matches on increased. Boxing as cheap as chips kick boxing the same.

Either way lots and lots of waiting about if your the responsible adult not including the travelling time which for bigger comps can be very time consuming indeed.

If she’s going to compete make sure 1). She can actually fight and is mean not just getting pad work in
2) trains at a proper fighting gym not just some noddy participation belt gym
3) of course any tutor should be crb/first aid/insured and all that jazz.
4) there’s plenty of kids her own age and appropriate size and ability so she doesn’t get disheartened by getting battered. Any good coach should moderate this and ime dealing with kids they pick stuff up like a sponge and are not always in full control of their limbs so need to be saved from themselves 😂

My boy's 19 now and fell away from the boxing after Covid hit, still annoys me as he's blessed in the craft, but the town's club is superb and there's a cohesiveness about the parents so there was (and is) a lot of helping out if work etc impacted parental ability to take/support their lassies and laddies. So important to make sure young boxers don't miss out on opportunities to spar and compete elsewhere in Scotland and northern England in order to broaden their experience and develop their skills against matched opponents as Rasputin says.

Both grandsons fought Muay Thai all over Scotland and imo the organisation was very good
That another one she wants to try as she really likes using knees in krav maga.

Tbh mate I don't think judo would appeal as she likes striking. Personally I much prefer ground work & I'd also rather she did.

Ever the pacifist, Ben!
🤣🤣🤣
I learnt early, that being small in stature but big in the mouth, meant I needed to be able to handle myself!! 😂😂

Been involved in some form of martial art since I was 19. I'm getting there now! 😏
