Got my 14 year old son up helping during his summer holidays, mad keen bird and clay shooter and a real desire to be a keeper, Night out with the 17 ,on a target to make sure hes ok with anything thats not an air rifle. All good there, so a few nights out bunny bashing through the week which hes loved.
Friday morning. wee chat with the keeper on the estate, " get me a decent freezer buck" were his words to me.
so tonight off we went around the estate, seen some nice bucks out, Definitely at least 3 medal class boys!! Best leave them
everything this side seemed too good so decided we just had enough light left to try somwhere else, so loaded up and headed away.
3 fields up the track a buck popped out and across the road infront of us, decent body, poor wee 4 pointer, i said thats the one.
only option we really had was a bonnet shot so i set the rifle up, my lad sneaked out the back door and set himself up, i was firm on the binos and gave the words " when your ready son"
BANG.... hop jump roll and down down he went!
Big pat on the back and a hug, and i swear a fly got me in the eye or something!! Dont know who was happier, him that he got it, or me so proud!
what a night to remember!! Hes ckept his bullet casing and the keeper is getting the head mounted for him. Not a fancy head by any means! but one he will treasure with the memories forever i hope!!
