Land rover discovery 5 replacement key

£700 !! what, are they going to replace the door with a complete new lock and set of keys ;-)

WTF! AA key replacement did a key for my van and were excellent. Removed all the old keys from the ECU so only the ones I had were valid and were fast and efficient

Wife managed to lose a set of keys and LR want 700 quid for a new one 😢

Any ideas anyone to get one without being bent over !
There are cheaper alternatives out there but if your Disco is still in warranty it would be worth checking if the alternatives void it in any way (especially as I often involves going into the ecu). Could be more expensive in the long run!

I also have a Disco and know how important that warranty can be, with any newer LR for that matter! 😂

Pretty incredible that you had working keys in the first place! None of the three discos I had were lockable, and I never took the key out of the vehicle for fear it wouldn't work when I put it back in again.
The defender was a different story altogether, and starting that involved fiddling with some wires under the dash.

Hi.
Check your insurance or breakdown cover for key insurance. I have it as part of my AA.

Incidentally, Timpsons wanted £500 for a key for my Jeep!

Find your local independent LR specialist, buy either a genuine LR key for about £230 or a non LR key (available online for about £60) & ask them to code it to the BCU on the car - they should have the software & it won't take more than half an hour so £50-60 in labour. Not sure about D5s but D4s have three 'slots' for keys in the BCU so there is an empty one in case you lose a key & need a new one adding, after that I don't believe they can be removed so it's a new BCU... D2 is much easier, 5 slots & old keys can be removed & new ones added.

AA key cover is very worthwhile, they cover up to £1000 for key replacement - I get it free with my breakdown & recovery membership.
