Landlord Freelander 2 - Steering

Morning all, I have a 2012 Freelander that's done about 130,000 miles. The steering has started to get stiff recently; it's worse on full lock when manoeuvring into a parking space, but I've also noticed it going around roundabouts. It feels like it's catching slight when steering out of corner, and seems to be worse on longer trips. Any ideas what the issue might be?

IIRC steering racks are a known issue with high mileage FL2s - there are frequent posts on the FL2 FB forum about it. Do a search on the FREEL2 forum website - it think you’ll find your answer if it’s not tyre/steering geometry related. I made it to similar mileage with mine though without issue.

Don’t know if the set up is the same but on my D4 the UJ on the bottom of the steering column seized making it very notchy to turn. Was a DIY replacement job & all sorted.

There's a filter that needs pulling out and cleaning in the rack. Do that with a fluid change providing it isn't your serpentine belt and you should be good.

Plenty of info on the forums about it
