Large Commercial 4x4 car derived van

Hello all,
It's time to retire my 20 year old car and as I am self employed, it's makes an awful lot more fiscal sense to buy a two/three seater commercial vehicle on the business.

Reliability and practicality and my foremost concerns and my budget is up £30k + VAT. I am looking for something that lasts. 🤞

As far as I can see this leaves me a two good options.

5-7 year old Landcuiser
Same aged Shogun

As well as maybe the Dacia duster commercial and the KGM Rexton and possibly the transporter 4motion with diff lock, but I think the last option is out of my price range and my wife doesn't want to drive a van.....

I am only looking at vans/car derived vans!

Any opinions on the above greatfully received.

Best wishes
James

I run a transporter 4motion , great motor all you need is the right tyres if you go off road but be honest with yourself about how offroady you actually are 95% of the time you’ll be fine in the transporter

I’ve had a 2020 Shogun Sport commercial for 12 months now. It replaced a Duster commercial.

The shogun is incredibly capable off road on all terrain tyres. Proper low box, rear and centre diff locks, good ground clearance and wading depth. It’s a pretty good drive on road, certainly better than a pick up. I would have plumped for a land cruiser but the shogun was literally half the price. There is a bit of a theoretical risk with Mitsubishi having left the UK but parts are pretty easy to come by, given the shogun sport shares a lot of parts with the L200, and Mitsubishi are making a bit of a return this year. They also seem to have a bit more kit than the land cruiser commercials come with as I understand it (heated seats, leather etc).

Personally I’m a big fan and happy with my choice. Just remember you don’t get the same access to the load area as you do on a proper van with sliding doors ( may not matter depending on what you do).

Thanks Tom, do you feel it is a big improvement on the Dacia?
In short, yes, for what I do.

I do about 14,000 miles a year and had two dusters, both of which served me pretty well to be fair. But they weren’t the most comfy on long journeys which I sometimes have to do for work and they were slightly limited off road. I shoot a mix of muntjac, roe and fallow and while I don’t mind a carry, being able to get a vehicle in with the confidence it’ll get back out is nice. The shogun sport is a foot shorter than the L200 and with coil springs a nicer ride (although it’s still not quite car like!).

Its just got a fair bit more space than the dusters - it’s a foot longer and a fair bit taller inside.

The only thing it’s not as good on is fuel economy but it’s a two ton car that looks like a brick…
