VW Transporter 4motion AT Tires

I plan to get new tires for my VW Transporter 4motion van. Size 225/75R16 or 215/65R16.
The van is used for daily use, shooting, stalking and field trialing dogs. The field trials make me do a lot of miles during the year. Most on motorways, but also light off road work.
I would like to hear some experiences from users. I am looking for :
- high mileage
- a less noise as possible
- good grip on wet and dry roads
- fuel consumption not to high
- decent off road performance

I have a few in mind :
- BF Goodrich A/T
- General Grabber AT3
- Toyo Open country A/T Plus
- Nokian Outpost AT

From Goodrich I know they are good off road and have high mileage ( they should do 55.000 miles). But not the most silent.
Other options are considered.

Have you considered a winter tyre? I run them on my Allroad. They give very good grip on the wet, in snow but also on wet greasy mud, dirt tracks etc. Yet are fineon motorways etc and I think I loose about 1 or 2 MPG.

What’s the towing capacity on 4 Motion van?

2500 kg

My friend has a Mercedes van AWD and uses these and seems to go most stubbles fields and wet tracks without problem.

When I was hunting in Latvia they had VW vans 4x4 and we went anywhere a Hilux would and they used BFG ATs

My stepson and his wife have bfg at's on their Merc Sprinter camper. They reckon they are very good. It's mainly for off grid camping in the hills. They did the NC500 over new year 1800 miles all in with snow ice and light off road included.

Thanks.
I know. A friend is on it's third at the moment. For shooting-stalking-dogs it's hard to imagine a better vehicle. My friend also uses BFG AT's and it goes anywhere.
The older T4 with 2.5 lit 5 cyl diesel engine was even superior. Much easier to load and unload than any pick up truck and much more loading space.
Only if you want to do extreme off roading there will be better options.

Saw loads of them when hunting in Baltic countries. Got loads of room and same off road ability as most pick ups but can sit 4 big adults and dog cages plus luggage and clothing

Having had Grabber AT3s and BF K02s back to back, no question for me - Grabbers everytime.

Know BFs are a Baja champion and excel in dry rocky environments, but I think the Grabbers are far more suited to wet English weather.

Both will plug through mud, but Grabbers feel so much better on the road, especially when wet.

Grabbers far quieter too.

Another decent all rounder but milder is the Pirelli Scorpion Zero (not the Verde) but not sure you can get them anymore.

I’ve recently been ‘googling‘ this topic - looking for tyres for my Outlander for similar uses…. I’ve settled up the Michelin Cross Climate All Weather - Some good discounts available if replacing two or four tyres…. If you have a local store & you’re a member of Costco they are offering a really good price on them…. Atb Tom

Those seem to be very popular on the Outlander.

I've just opted for a set of the Avon AX7 for mine. All seems well so far and they were fine on a soft marsh grazing field at the weekend. 👍

I think goodrich ko2 are lethal on wet roads.
I had some falken all season van tyres on my sprinter for work. What a tyre, im on sites and quarries all the time. They are brilliant and suprise me in every place I would expect to struggle. I've even thought about them for my Hilux. They just wind their way through clay. Grip sand and loose stuff. £110 fitted too.

Only downside of the Michelin Cross Climates is that they are pretty useless in snow - not nearly as good as winters. Friend had them on his XC 90 when he replaced the winters, they were useless in the white stuff.
