As with much in life, you get what you pay for. A cheap one will do nicely for rimfire and airgun ranges but will struggle on centrefire distance.
I had a tasco that helped for many rabbits. I got a deal with an ATN and upgraded. It will lase out to 800m easily enough on a non reflective target in good weather but seems to struggle with humidity and I've had to fall back on my axion lrf a couple of times recently.
The more claimed distance likely the more real world performance in sensible ranges

I have one of these and they are fine a carry then if I decide not to take my rangefinder binos. For the money they are very good and accurate as long as no rain or mist
