Lawn mower will not start

E10 knackers anything plastic. Ruined the fuel lines in.my Husky chain saw.
If storing for any lengthr of time run until tank is dry then refil with Aspen run for a few minutes and you should be OK. If I use petrol then premium grade and add fuel stabiliser. If possible dont store it all if you do make sure container is full to minimise air contact and good lid.

In your case I think it will.be a full carb rebuild. LS engineers is a great place for spares.

Check the basics - air, fuel spark compression.

Clean or temporarily remove the air filter.

Pump out all the fuel and put in new stuff. Does the spark plug get wet with fuel?

Does the spark plug spark when grounded on the engine.

Compressio - Does the pull cord feel like it has some resistance with the spark plug in?

After this Id check the carb bowl then clean the carb.

Lad I knew who used to do a bit of grass cutting used to sell some good secondhand mowers. Start of the season people would find their old mower was not running right & rush out to buy a new one. He’d buy the old one, or was often given it as it was only going to the skip, clean the old fuel out, clean the carb or replace if necessary, new plug, filters & fresh fuel then sell on. Every spring was the same.

Yes

That’s why I have decided to get hands on with this despite normally having zero interest in anything mechanical . Had it for years, hardly ever drained out fuel for over winter, always started in the spring, even if it took some time and cursing, then after a run out over the lawn it was good for the next 8 months.

But this time is different. Starts then stops after five or six seconds. Carb been removed stripped and blasted through every which way with carb cleaner spray, as have the various jets. Then replaced. Fuel drained out and replaced.

Still no improvement.

Air filter was new a couple of years ago and looks fine

Spark plug is next attempt

I once took my £180 lawnmower to a local repair shop. They charged me £225 to fix it 😂

That was the last time any of my machines left my oversight.
Similar happened to my Mum. This time of year, mower wouldn’t run so phones local repair place who picked it up & took it away. Then called her to say they’d stripped it down, diagnosed the fault & parts & labour would be ‘X’ - with ‘X’ being more than the cost of a new mower & they could do her a discount if she wanted a new one. I went to collect the parts &, surprise surprise, it was in one piece exactly as they’d collected it… Took it home, ordered new plug & complete carb plus fuel pipes from eBay. Cleaned tank out & air filter, fitted new parts & away it went like a good un. Total cost under £30!

Its sucking air, check the plastic fuel feed tube from the tank to the carburettor, especially the push fit connections. The plastic gets old and brittle, it’s also prone to developing pinholes.
But wouldn’t it also be leaking petrol in that case?

Not a lot. You might get a little weep from the content of the feed tube with the engine running but most of it will evaporate .
Try giving the primer bulb a few pushes, if you get no resistance and or bubbles in the fuel as you release the bulb, there’s the problem.
It’s a cheap fix, no harm to clean or replace the fuel filter while you’re there.

Plenty of very good advice already and most off them pretty easy cheap fixes.

With any small engine problems ( althou I'm more into 2 stroke)
-Fresh petrol ( and if 2 stroke use good quality oil)
-Check clean, replace air filter
-And a new spark plug ( always buy 2 or 3 plugs i have replaced plugs and new plug has been faulty)
Between spark, oil and fuel it will be most of ur problems

Possibly a long shot but have u checked the engine oil level?
Some engines won't start if level too low.

Finally as has been said good practice to run carb dry every back end.

Dunno if true but I was told not to mix Aspen and 2 stroke, when Aspen 1st came out.
Either run 1 or the other.
I was told the 2 react with each other and knackers fuel lines.

Another thing they say modern E10 petrol only last 3 months or so and mixed 2 stroke even less althou I find with good 2 stroke oil I don't seem to get any bother if I don't use 5L as quick as usual.
