Leather Trousers

Before, I start, I fully accept I am opening myself up to a range of bad taste comments / jokes.

I have been looking online for loden trousers and I noticed a lot of continental websites offer hunting trousers / jeans in leather. Is there any advantage to these, other than I imagine being very tough? I would have thought that they would be cold, particularly when wet, but can honestly say that I haven't worn leather before!

My favourite pair of hunting trousers are leather pair made by Meindl. Not the best trousers for cold weather and I have sprayed them a couple of times with a waterproofer. I doubt the would keep out more than light precipitation. They are very comfortable to wear.

My days of pushing through brambles is long past and they would definitely not stop a boar tusk. Plenty of boar proof trousers on the market now.
The only reason I bought them is because I liked the look of them. I wear a pair of Swazi water proof over trousers over them if it's really wet. I give them a wipe over with a wet cloth if I get to much patina on them.

I had a pair of similar a few years ago, I’ll have to find them, warm, comfortable hard wearing and good in the wet.

I have a pair of sasta leather front trousers and they are fantastic for the winter especially when you have to crawl

A few years ago, The House of Bruar was selling a very fine (and sturdy) leather hunting outfit - jacket and trousers - for Boar hunting in the Winter. Expensive, but pretty solid and I was briefly tempted once when travelling up the A9! No longer in the shop - probably a bit of overkill for Stags in the Highlands!
Flicking through some of the interweb, the closest I could see was leather trousers from Hubertus, but I'm sure there'll be some European suppliers with similar offerings.
I'm happy to wear my leather jeans on the bike, but would avoid the likes of the Blue Oyster Bar........

They are extremely popular in Germany. Some folks hardly ever wear anything else.
They are not cold, to a degree. In plus zero conditions they do an exellent job at balancing temperatures. And they are perfect for going through brush and brambles. Just don‘t let them get wet. There‘s no belt or suspenders that will hold them in place then.

My pair cost 150€ in 2007 and have a viscous lining they are comfortable above say +5C. No bum cutouts in them yet though. I can see the advantage for that after a hot curry.

I used a pair of leather jeans for ferreting for years, they were brilliant in brambles and blackthorn.

I’ve had two pairs of leather breeks made by Rachier (sp?) from Germany for years. One pair has had a lot of use including pushing through cover & are still going strong. The second pair haven’t been used as the first have lasted so well.

Like any garment you wear them in appropriate weather. They are lined so are reasonably warm but in notably wet weather I’d use something else or pair them with waterproof leggings or over-trousers.
