Leaving - days to go

You're joking, right? All the deals done in West Africa and East Africa are by the Chinese. We can neither underbid them on price nor can we offer the "dash" (aka a "gift", a back hander, brown envelope, "dessous table") that they do. All the big projects...for example the new Lagos to Kano railway are Chinese. Or, but much less so, the United States.

"In 2006, the Nigerian government awarded a $8.3 billion contract to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation to construct a standard gauge railway from Lagos to Kano."

And India, as they told the useless Theresa May back in November 2016, will want any future trade deal to not just be restricted to a) trade b) capital and c) services but also d) free movement of persons. In other words on the same basis as the UK had with the EU up until we Brexited (the EU "four freedoms").

Heath (another contender along with May as the most useless post-WWII Tory Prime Minister) effectively and very firmly closed the door on the Commonwealth in the 1970s. These countries have moved on. They don't need deals with the UK and if they do accept an invitation to negotiate deals they will most likely, as with India, demand these encompass a), b), c) and d) as above.
Then the choice could have been.

B for Brown

C for Corbyn

The EU are absolutely terrified because we are living, they are trying to give, or offer us the worst deal possible, because if the deal is too good, there are many other EU country that would take this and would be willing to leave the EU, this is something the wee "Krankie" up in Scotland should start to think about, as she is determined to try to get into the EU, as they have put a limit on the time we can now stay in Europe, this would also include us going to Scotland, and the Scots coming here especially in regard to working here.
We should have just left, instead of all this faffing about, bit like a divorce, best to get out quick.

50% tariff on Mercedes Benz, BMW and all VAG cars = 10s of thousands of jobs, and €Billions lost in the EU..........Just do it and stop fcuking around with them.

Who the hell do they think they are trying to totally dictate terms to us. It will hurt them just as much, if not more, than it will hurt us.

The EU and the 'negotiations' are like a never ending toothache

There is no trade deal to do and never was

We have mutually exclusive political interests and I just can't see where there is sufficient common ground upon which to base an agreement

There should be - it should be straight forward - but the EU is based on such a feeble foundation that it dare not allow us to leave without punishment

I do understand their problem with a level playing field - they are so loaded down with labour protection laws etc that they dare not allow us unfettered access

To escape all those suffocating rules was one of the reasons for Brexit so we cannot allow the EU to impose them on us once again

I don't trust Bojo to hold firm though - perhaps his ego will be sufficient to replace the backbone he is lacking

Some difficult times ahead and I sympathise with those with businesses that will have to face yet more difficulty, but we have outgrown the politics of the EU and a clean break is the only acceptable outcome

Boris knows his destiny, Rock and the hard place, hope he chooses the rock to stand on.

He's already achieved it. It's what he called at Eton "King of the World" aka British Prime Minister. He doesn't care about the rest since then. Brexit and "Leave" was merely the vehicle best placed to achieve it for him. He's now become "O.E. #20". His photograph will join those of Grey, Wellington, Gladstone, Macmillan, Eden, and etcetera. That's pretty much all Johnson's political career was ever about....certainly it has never been about service for the public benefit to the United Kingdom.

Their behaviour over the last year or so does no more than convince me we have little in common with them politically, and re-enforces the decision I made to vote to leave.
They are now about the formation of a superstate and there is no doubt in my mind that eventually we will be better away from Brussels.

Did we really defeat Napoleon, Mussolini and Hitler just to be ruled by un elected despots. Who really cares about tariffs etc, WE ARE GREAT BRITAIN and we will find a way no matter what these small minded self functioning tossers think. we should defend our fishing with gun boats, sink any foreign boat poaching our fish stocks.
I voted to remain but boy did I get that wrong after watching the way this lot are trying to shaft us. They need reminding that they would all be under the jackboot if it wasnt for us.

I have worked much of the last decade in both East and West Africa and the Chinese are everywhere. My driver in Burundi was telling me how the "nice" Chinese had "given" the country several roads and installed street lighting with each lamp driven by a solar panel. He seemed to think that it was a gift but I pointed out that nothing was free and the price was his country's rare earths and other minerals. The solar panels largely disappeared within weeks and could soon be seen gracing homes all over Bujumbura!

And a former neighbour of mine was captain of the Conqueror , that went to a little party in the South Atlantic back in 1982.

Do you think the mk 8 torpedo is too much gun for a french trawler ?
Limpet mines much cheaper, and historically the sort of things the French like using.

Lets see, French fishermen blockade Calais yet again, a crack team of plucky British frogmen attach remote controlled mines to them all then give notice to all to abandon ship in good time. Even let one off "pour encourager les autres"

Sort of an "Operation Satanique" in reverse.

Or bring back "privateers" to assist our rather diminished navy in enforcing law and order.

One can but dream.

Now that would be a bit naughty, after all the help they have given us to stop the illegal immigration across the channel, I would use full size mines. And we could put up barriers across the channel so we could be fully aware of any poaching going on, create lots of jobs too in the bargain.

Perhaps our trawlermen that cashed in years ago can buy back their quota's and start up again.
Would be nice if fish in shops could be fairly priced again.
That would be good (If workable) but unfortunately many of those good and experienced skippers (and crews) who cashed in all those years ago because of the EU quota system had their hearts ripped out and there are very few younger ones with any experience coming into the game! Take a look at Fleetwood (Just as one example), it used to be a leading fishing port but now it is nothing short of a ghost town, and it's heart breaking to see!

I cannot understand why we didn't start from a position of preparing for a no deal rather than this desperate holding out for a deal. If we weren't prepared for a no deal, we had no leverage to get a deal.

I also think people are in for a nasty surprise when they find that actually it is our own love of regulation that is responsible for much of the regulatory rubbish that all governments have blamed on the EU. Whilst the regulations might have stemmed from the EU, our implementation of it has been excessive and heavy handed and not mirrored else where within the EU. One has to question whether the amount of regulations imposed by successive governments have been of benefit to society or for purposes of justifying the existence of a bloated public sector.
