Leaving - days to go

That's because the GC website is free, Kenny, unlike the online Telegraph, Times, etc. Those titles are missing a trick.:)
The strapline is 'Available for everyone, funded by readers'. ....
... print edition subscribers like my better half who pays £52.99 a month. :(
ah see your point  misread it first time around :D

Be a big boy and go get yourself some!

There is a big wide world beyond the shores of little Britain, full of wonderful beers 🍺
Been there seen most of it. Not even one place where there is good beer, all cat P you have to freeze before drinking. One exception I must admit, it's black it's good and it's better in its place of origin than anywhere else.🌚🌚😋

Ray Basset, former Irish Ambassador to Canada 'ventured his opinion' on ex taoiseach Leo's handling of the affair:

Ex Taoiseach Leo is seemingly assured to take over from current Taoiseach Micheál Martin in accordance with the coalition deal that was struck in order to keep Sinn Féin out of government at all costs even though they were the most popular party in the Republic of Ireland at the last general election.

Micheál is to serve the first two years and Leo is in line to take the helm for the last two years of the four year term but many's the slip twixt cup and lip.

Ireland is a small place and Leo has a lot of skeletons in his closet.

That bears out the overwhelming impression he created since the referendum that Varadker was Brussel's useful idiot in Ireland and that his dog-whistle anti-British/pro-EU posturing did his country immense harm.
He was a lapdog looking for a pat on the head form his Brussels handlers when he should have been a leader of his country. He played the card that Ireland was being served very badly by the UK's democratic decision to leave the EU, as if acquiescing in some bizarre acceptance of a long vanished colonial rule over Ireland by the Britain, when in truth and quite blatantly, it was Brussels that was manipulating Ireland as a colonial possession through it's puppet Taoiseach. Ireland has been badly let down by both Varadker and the EU.
It is to be hoped they will in future have more intellectually and politically mature leaders who will place national interest above personal ambition in cosying up to the EU politburo and who will seek a properly constructive relationship with their independent and entirely friendly and well-disposed brother nation next door.
People here scoff at Boris but in comparison, as a schoolboy pillock Varadker was immeasurably worse.

Finch, if you think Varadker was anti British you have a very rude awakening coming to you.

@Fair Hill I have only given you a 👍 (post 570) because it is ,
a. An obvious fact
b. Probably the first valid thing you have posted here .

I love a polemicist . I am one myself

Keep it real. (If you do people will be more minded to listen.)

😎 Happy Christmas

Your opinion means nothing to me.

Happy Christmas.

I have no doubt that Varadker hadn't the faintest original thought about what or who he was pro or against. he was just a soft as toffee malleable pawn. In the long run it makes next to no difference to us in this country, materially, politically or psychologically what happens in Dublin. Or Belfast for that matter. But its relationship to the UK will matter massively to the people of Ireland.
To repeat: the EU is not your friend. It is not your partner or benefactor. You are are merely a piece of territory to be acquired and used. And you have been.

Finch, you can bluff away about a lot of things but not Irish politics to an Irishman.

Don't underestimate Leo, he is a lot shrewder than anyone you have ever voted for or will ever vote for but he got a bit too smug along the way and we Irish don't tolerate that for too long.

Wait until you see what Irish democracy decides what is coming next.

It will be of recreational interest only. In the grand scheme of things it's irrelevant. Why do you hang on to this rivalry? It has no currency. Sound and fury signifying nothing. We move on. I'm sorry, but since you press the point, it must be said: you don't matter.

If it doesn't matter to you and is irrelevant why do you make it a topic of conversation?

You're the one quoting my posts, would you prefer if your ignorance went uncorrected?

You'd never learn anything with that attitude.
