Hi All. I'm interested in the comparisons of functionality and usability specifically between these two rangefinding ballistic binoculars.
Basically in your opinion which one would you favour and why?
I use a Kestrel 5700 elite but in looking for a very good rangefinding optic I can't see which one would be the one to have.
I know for the longer ranges the 10x42 will offer better magnification with a little less field of view but is the 8x56 really that much brighter in comparison with the bigger objective lense under various conditions is it noticably better?
I'm interested to know people's views - excuse the pun.

I hve certainly noticed that shake is more noticeable, and last light ability reduced in 10x42 when comparing with 8x42.

I have the 8x56 and have some 10x42. I find it so much better to use the 8x56 less shake great low light and the mag matches my scope so easy to switch from binos to scope. But if your on open hill you may need higher mag it depends on where your stalking

I posted this on your welcome thread, but this is the better place....On first principles the 8X56 will have much better light gathering abilities than the 10X42. Simple division shows you the factor. 7 versus 4.2.

For my general deer stalking I prefer 8X42 over 10X50...the light gathering is much the same but the weight and size for lugging around is less. The higher magnification will enable you to pick out antler form/detail at greater distance.

For longer ranges, depending on what you're looking to determine, a separate telescope is advisable to be used in conjunction with your preferred weight and magnification of binoculars, anything else is so much of a compromise, and we won't be there to assist when you're out in the field yourself. 8/42 and the telescope for my purposes (sexing roe deer at distances upmto a mile or more, assessing age and trophy quality at closer ranges (up to 500m).
