Looking at this scope for woodland and quite rangey heights eats. I have a S&B Polar in 4-16x56 on another rifle so it would be up against that.
My main concern is it’s a 6.7x scope so not sure how much real world difference this makes to low light against the 4x S&B. My experience with other scopes is that I never use a mag below 5-6 in reality but I need high mag mainly for ID…my eyesight seems to be getting poorer by the year.

The Leica is cheaper than another S&B.

The low light performance of Magnus is exceptional for a super-zoom scope. You will not be loosing much in terms of low light capabilities against Polar and you will be gaining in many other aspects: FOV, illumination, great BDC turret...

I work for Leica, so I will try to be fair in my answer as there are a number of good scopes in the market, however a few years back, I went out in very poor light conditions with two of my rifles, one fitted with the scope in question, another had a scope from my previous employers, which I rate highly and was being used by a colleague of mine (4x mag factor), two other guys in our party had a scope from my previous employ (but a different model) and the other had another well know brand (8x and 6x mag factor).

So after a successful outing and just to test, we tried them all after we had finished (beyond legal hunting conditions) and the Magnus was viewed by all (two of the guys are professional stalkers) as being equal to my other scope, which is highly thought off, and as used by my colleague. The other two scopes, which we agreed were good, but not quite as clear in the conditions. Very subjective, I know, but the bottom line, is that you have to make that choice. I should add that your particular S&B scope is a good model (did not feature in our subjective test).

It doesn’t say gen 2 anywhere so I’m guessing gen 1. Anyone know what the difference?

Gen two has a 'i' on the end of the mag to the left of the eye box. Should show = 2.4-16x56i. The turrets should return to zero without the use of a tool, the battery compartment should have a locking clip and there are some differences with the illuminated dot, meant to be finer I believe
