Leupold LTO...any good?

Hey all,

Thinking of taking the plunge & investing in a thermal spotter for last light tracking & early morning spotting.May use it for the occasional fox foray too.

I’ve checked out so many handhelds & am somewhat overwhelmed by the options from companies like Pulsar & Flir....so many models!

Has anyone had experience with the Leupold LTO or the HD version?

Appreciate these are very much a simplified device but would I really need 1500m + detection?...guess it’s handy if you can scan from a decent vantage point to asses the mornings approach.

Leupold. They are not spotters. They just about pick up stuff at 150 feet.ie rocks, clumps of marsh grass, tree stumps and most other things that have been warmed up in the daytime sun.
My advice on the above is don't even go there.

I tested one last year and must admit I was disappointed. Struggled to pick up a squirrel at 40ft.

The cheapest "real" thermal spotter is the Pulsar Quantum lite XQ23V.
All the cheaper stuff, such as the smartphone add-ons are simply a waste of money
All the FLIR stuff runs at low speed (9Hz) so anything moving looks like a charlie chaplin movie

Cheers

Bruce

Got both the quantum lite xq30 and also the helion XQ38F and they are both good but the helion is worth the extra money as it’s more compact and the battery unit is better.
That said the lite is a great entry level unit.

Which ever you choose they are both great units.

With all of the world wide feedback re the Leupold spotter`s I cant fathom how it was released to the public, didn't they test them rigorously?
Ok they did....where did they?in the office tea garden?
I see them come up on the used gun sites quite often..brand new hardly used etc.
They dont sell even when the prices are low.
