I have a new .357 Rem Mag barrel for my Thompson Contender carbine I have had for 20 years+ and also a .35 Remington barrel that I used in 1994 to take my first beast in New Mexico. I felt the urge so I had sourced two Leupold QR bases and then took the other mount off the .35 Rem, the .357 Rem Max had never ever had mounts or even been fired by me yet. Anyway I had a one inch ring set that I put a Schmidt & Bender 6x42 onto and another scope with a 30mm tube that the other mount set I had fitted. It took a few hours of cleaning the bases etc to do the job. The two scopes now fit/swap from one barrel to the other and snug down as it appears to me to be the same on each mount. The .357 Rem Max will also shoot .38 Special & .357 Magnum rounds so it will an interesting day at the local range soon to see how the zeros will show up when swapping them out. I expect different POIs of course.
