Hi, sorry to post such a potentially ver boring question on here. Only, I thought someone might be able to shed some light on something for me.
I’m a professionally trained self employed bespoke furniture designer and maker and have also been making bespoke hardwood windows and doors for listed buildings for the past 23 years.
About 16 or 17 years ago I bought a couple of second hand solid bronze hand planes made by lie- Nielsen USA but never really bonded with them so they just sat in my tool cabinet in the workshop.
Anyway, from what little I seem to be able to gather on the matter, lie-Nielsen have stopped making them ( I’ve no idea why) and they are now worth about 5 times what I paid for them. So, I figured I might consider selling them so someone else can enjoy using them and I can put the into something that will actually be of use to me.
Does anyone know what the story is behind lie Nielsen not making bronze tools anymore?
I’m not on any woodwork forums so I don’t know the gossip, so to speak. Anyone with knowledge on the subject, it would be interesting to hear. Only, if they have stopped making those bronze tools permanently, maybe I should sit on them a little longer perhaps, I’m in no rush to sell them, only it’s a shame not to flog them if they later loose value due to them being available again.
Kindest regards, Olaf
