Lightforce Remote Handle Extension

I have a 225mm remote handle on my suction roof mounted Lightforce lamp and could do with extending it another 4". Has anybody successfully extended the handle with photos? Was thinking about using a thread connector and short extension tube but not sure how difficult it is to remove the plastic handle as it seams like it is glued solid?
