Loading deer in to drinks chiller

For me the solution is a small electric hoist as close to the chiller door as possible but mounted much higher. I think my cable virtually rubs against the front of the chiller when in use. I can hoist the carcass by the aitch bone, rear legs free. Once the legs reach the right height (a few inches higher than they'll end up I can spin the carcass so they are sticking into the chiller, hook or gambrell onto the chiller rails and then lower the hoist. Once you've got a bit of spare height to work with then life gets so much easier.
That sounds ideal 👍

No idea where you can get the rail/pipes, but I acquired this, made some holes, and silicon sealed.

Winch above, so you can just hook on at the front, and push back. Had two fallow, and one roe in it.

Do you winch with a hook in aitch bone then hook S hook on bar in to legs then slide back in to the chiller?

Tried to use a gamble if I could, then hook on to an "S", so the deer sat sideways. Takes three that way.

If I only had a single deer, whatever was the easiest ;)
Nice simple solution. It’s great to see how people are doing this so many different ways. Thanks 👍

We have a walk in chiller and unfortunately never thought about an extended rail when we set it up. The electric winch is on a gantry which swings through 90 degrees from door to cold store. It can also slide along about 1 metre of the gantry rail. When loading reds single handed we put a webbing strap around the red just forward of the point of balance, winch it up keeping a hand on the legs to keep it level. Swing gantry and offer the deer up to the door. When you take your hand off the legs gravity raises them to the height of the rail and you can proceed to hang your deer

Incidentally we used spurious door hangers and rail made by a local engineering works. The threaded bar was heated into an S. It means minimal loss of roof space

I use a block and tackle mounted to the roof outside the chiller (a chain one that you operate with your hands.) Then once the beast is level with the top of the chiller I have a rolling hook that runs on an I beam in the chiller. I simply push the carcasses into the fridge and hook on to the rolling hanger and push it back into the chiller. Works on reds up to 100kg

I’d be tempted to cut the forequarter off at the 5th rib while still in the fur and shove it in in two pieces. You’ll lose a bit to the dog bowl with hair contamination when you come to process but it’ll mate it more manageable.

I welded chain links on to the flattened end and hang an S hook from the link, if head room/ space is tight a hacksaw might help!

I bought a Landig fridge three rail hanging system with the extending bar to fit in the Mondiale Elite fridge I bought from Ebay to solve the same problem you have. The plan was to drill though the fridge ceiling (as compressor and fan not roof mounted on Mondiale) with roof top bars to spread load. Sadly fridge has proved a pup and don't want another disappointment so will probably bite the bullet and buy a Landig. If your fridge is suitable I could sell you the rail system - it's still boxed and unused.

Thank you for this. I must admit I don’t know anything about the rail system you have offered to sell me but if it could be used in my drinks chiller I’d certainly consider it. Could you possibly pm me some photos/measurements etc so I can work out if I might be able to utilise the system with my set up?

I will second the Landig. I bought a chiller and it let me down a few times.
My Landig has been brilliant. The load rail is simple and works. It slots in the end of the tube IMG_20191127_093829.webp

Yep this - not bolted, but useful for getting a big buck close for the bear hug heave

Surely you have to still lift it up to get it onto the hanging rail though?
Why don’t you put a belt around the deers saddle ( between the ribs and the haunches) and then your winch will lift the hocks All the way up to the rail and you can then pop in those s hooks, then slacken off the winch to lower it onto the rail . Same to get it out again.
Kindest regards, Olaf

BP75 and Gm81 thanks for the photos. Those rails are exactly what I need/was going to have welded up. Looks like I might have the opportunity to buy those exact rails.

Looking at all these very professional chillers makes me somewhat envious.
My humble solution was two lengths of 6x2 which has done the job for many years now at no real cost.
