The chap who sorted out the shooting of this block tagged along this evening, very keen to see the muntjac trimmed up also he likes my xq38...
We had only pitched up 5 mins with a mature doe breaking cover flat out closely followed by a large Buck....
They vanished in a flash, over time I have seen pairs wander back along cover but not when the chase is on, then Charlie turned up trotting the same line. All my squeaking fell on deaf ears so a few goes on the butterlo pulled him up!
My spotter said " its a long way" with the fox sitting facing into the sun I had a bit of time to dial in the Z6, a gin clear site picture, a left to right wind so I held on the left side of its bib......the .270 has a 3lb pull and B&Q sticks to rest on.
Over he went with my friend clucking like a hen mumbling that will make a good tale on shoot day...lol
His paces 258 mine 262 so we settled on 260.
Deer time, I spotted a small Buck but he disappeared into the center hedge beyond the boundary, I started using the caller with my friend watching the buck make his way back out of the wood and follow the hedge line to the calling...90 yards to his mark.
Heading back to the truck I left him by a tree which has a nice hanging branch to grab my knives, a waving of hands from my spotter, one more 120 yards into the wind, are you going to shoot from here...am I **** lol, but it might see you!
So I waited until It put his head down and stepped out of cover on the sticks.
Second small Buck then a larger one popped out the hedge and gave the young one a push, Knowing the young one could well stand after the shot I took the larger one and then the one who never ran for cover...
