Lumpy jaw

Is it safe to eat a deer with lumpy jaw , shot a buck this morning with what appears to be classic lumpy jaw , the condition was ok , not the biggest but not too bad. It's for my own use.
I've read that it's safe to eat , but also read the opposite too.
Anyone had experience with this and what did you do with the carcass?
Many thanks
Paul

It is usually localised so head and neck only. But you can get spread so check the chest nodes (the ones that are not minced by the bullet).

If it is just a lump in the bone, it will be old infection and probably fine

Thanks for that. It looks fine tbh but I'm not short of roe to go at so may err on the side of caution.
It was head shot , vegetation up here is man high, so all the chest was complete. Nothing out the ordinary.
