Wanted: Lyman Slug Mould 12 Gauge

Hi All,
I think that this is the exact thing, but maybe wrong... "Lyman 1-Cavity Shotshell Sabot Slug Bullet Mold 12 Gauge (681 Diameter) 525 Grain"

Preferably with handles.

Also a Lee lead pot (or similar) & I might have to retire my ladle and gas ring!

Anything gathering dust somewhere?

Many thanks
G

Not got a spare as yet - but will do soon as I'm getting a custom double cavity version - I can possibly sort you out a few slug if you are in urgent need?

Sold mine a few years ago but the interest rose again recently so decided to buy some already made.
Reasonably priced and come with a felt wad screwed to the base for added obturation.
I think I got them from the Pigeon watch site.

Thank you for your kind offer, Not in desperate need so nothing urgent, just getting organized for a trip in Europe next year. I will however be interested in your old single cavity mould when available.

EMcC..... Thanks. Will check out the design.

Ultimately I plan to modify the plug in the rear cavity, primarily to drop the weight. I'm sure Lyman have already tried this failed and are selling the best one, but I can't stop trying to improve things!

Thanks again guys.

I have a 1oz one I bought new but never used, shall I bring it over to the UK on Saturday?

Quick update…….

“Bulletmolds AS-company” produce a variety of quality moulds, namely the “Twister” Accurate & lethal.

The bulletmold Twister 12 gauge — Bulletmolds AS-company

Test by TAOFLEDERMAUS:

Imported, (or at least was) into the UK by Nigel Turner. Appreciate any means of contact. His site link russianslugmoulds.com is no longer working.

I would be amazed if anyone has one of these for sale….. but live in hope.

Thanks all.

Just picked up a MEC 600 Slugger reloading press. Going to try reloading the Gualandi (hunting) and Cervo / Thug Slugs for target.

Any powder suggestions folks?

With powder, primer & wad cost above that of a cheap steel tailor made shell, if you don't need too many, then dump the balls & replace with a slug.
That is assuming correct size with/without sabot. Have done it with DIY SG & it worked fine. Will do the same with slugs soon.....

I am currently working on a design similar to the Russian Svarog (as above) but with a spiral tail. Awaiting Nylon for the 3D printer. Everything else is done.

Hi @Blind Pugh ,

I have some Gualandi Borra-Proiettle to start with for hunting.

And the other thing for target would be (Cervo / Thug Slug):

Primer, powder will be a cost but free Geco or S&B slug cases should help.

This is as far as I have got..... Prototype! Tail is in PLA so I will not bother testing it, bit too hard. Wait for the nylon. Post Office strikes?
I made a mould similar to the Russian one, Final diameter 17.3mm so snug inside a sabot.
If it doesn't work, do away with the standard wad, replace it with a simple cup/gas seal for the powder to sit in. Redesign a longer tail that will incorporate a bit of a cushion, . Finally, enlarge the mould (just the two bands) to suit.
I would rather not have the lead running on the barrel, hence the use of a sabot. But that might prove to be a waste of time. For the rifled flutes on the tail to be more effective they need to index the barrel. The alternative is to use a rifled choke. Incidentally I am struggling to find one in the UK. Plenty in the US as usual! (Benelli CRIO)
Rifled flutes are 1:900mm same as a rifled choke (read it somewhere) but they just don't look anything like as steep as the commercial slugs. Might have to change.....

Hi 25 Sharps
Thank you for your very kind offer.
Having never seen a S&B slug case, how do these differ from standard cases?

Thanks

Looks interesting. Will there be a way of attaching the wad to the slug? Bisley requires it.

Best wishes,

Scrummy

@Blind Pugh I was thinking of using those cases as they shoot the same kind of slugs as I'm planning on loading.

Also there are videos of Wiederlader.TV (German Reloading Channel) making slugs with the Geco cases.

Yes,
But the drawback with all the US slugs is accuracy. TAOFLEDERMAUS channel on YouTube tests everything.
Would be interesting to see the Brenneke types with a rifled choke.
