M595 .243

Niche question but I’m thinking about re barrelling my .22-250 m595 into a fast twist .243.

Theory being that I can’t shoot red or fallow with the .22-250 and that’s 90% what I do so the .22 is a bit redundant.

Also have a .260 so covered in the 6.5mm step up.

The rifle has sentimental value so don’t want to get rid and buy something new.

Want to be able to buy factory rounds if need be (as I can’t with .260 reliably) so although the BR, XC, 6CR etc are all cool they don’t fulfill that element.

Probably shoot a 80gn ish bullet and want to shoot pretty much anything, will be a mid weight barrel around 22 inch. Not adverse to AI but would certainly want to be able to shoot standard .243 as well a decent amount of the time.

My question is - will an 80gn copper bullet fit into a .243 m595 magazine (I know I will need to swap the .22-250 mags I have).

Unless you’re hand loading and seating the bullet beyond max COAL then you should be fine.

243 factory ammo, copper or otherwise, will fit in a standard 243 mag.

Good call on the 595 by the way 👌. Just had my 590 re-barrelled in 222 and it’s a great setup.

Brilliant thanks - I’m a pretty conservative reloader at the best of times, don’t mess about with seating depth a great deal and certainly not particularly out of spec.

The Tikka has been spot on for me for a while now just needs a lease of life to keep it relevant

The two calibres seem very close together - why not go for a 7-08(AI) to give you something in addition to the 260 - allows you step the bullet weight up considerably
