For sale

Mauser 1937 Oberndorf K98 in 7X57 Mauser.

Sporterized stock with lovely tiger stripe timber and orange silvers style recoil pad. Open Safari sights.

Good points
  • Unfinished project - endless possibilities
  • Unthreaded for the classic safari/ Rigby look,
  • Good bore - before the base became loose it would shoot exceptionally well
  • Fun to shoot.
  • Bit of history with historical markings.
The following issues are noted.
  • Shoots spitzer RWS 123g very well, but tends not to chamber very well round nose PPU etc. Tight on closing.
  • Rear base has been tinned on and only tapped in one of the two holes, base is loose and requires refitting.
  • Safety catch doesn't function.
  • Some pitting to the action and blueing thin in parts
lack of skill to finish and thinning of cabinet reason for sale.

Asking £150 ono - collection CH8 - 10 minutes from Chester.

Beautiful looking rifle, with history too. I'd be tempted if I did not already have my name on a K98 in its battle dress.

Might be teaching you to suck eggs, but this is is normally the case if you seat a round nose bullet to the same length as a spitzer and try to chamber it. The differing bullet profile gets wedged in the lands, whereas the spitzer tapers more and is fine.

Hi Sean any idea why the safety doesn’t work?

The other bits of it I could live with! It’s a nice looking rifle for open sight meandering about
