Mink,

Just outside feeding the stock and one of the dogs has just dropped a fresh dead mink at my feet.

We are quite away from the nearest river, and there is certainly no water in any of the drainage channels. Do they travel far from water? Are they solitary, or if there one, will I have more?

I was asked so shoot some at a fishery in North Derbyshire 10 or so years ago, they had no smaller fish left and the biggest were getting attacked. There were a good few about then.
Was not very successful due to property and back stops being poor. Tried trapping but lack of experience played a part there.
The last one I saw was crossing the road near the river Wye at Bakewell.

Just had to shoot one on our local pond, killing everything, tricky to shoot as they never stop still for long, used the air rifle as houses very nearby. R

Just for info , but I would imagine you all no this , there are easy to trap , but also if that's not an option they squeak in just like you would a fox !! Just like all other mustelids

Had 3 traps down for 10 days, fresh cat food, no help, did try squeaking but was too much cover, so just sat quietly until either my, or minkys, patience ran out, his did in the end 👍
