The phone rang yesterday around 6.30pm it was "alway 5mins early Paul" I thought "he must be in a pickle to ring"
A rough sounding voice Tim got to bail out not feeling too good.
No problem get yourself sorted it is a long season, I will just shoot the smaller one
Best you do that was the reply!
I shoot a lot on my own but the Fallow can pop out of the wood anywhere also the last few beans were cut so they will be grazing where ever they want!
Standing Oats one side of the wood, bean stubble the other high seat one a ride one at "top spiny cover strip" which is a lot to cover hence having Paul the wing man also with his 3 fox effort last week the owner is keen to get these Fallow shot!
2 muntjac perfect for the top high seat but not where I was! A lone quite small one came out to feed but it can wait as not going to rattle the wood for that, time was ticking and a lone Fallow right at the far end! No choice but to come on the blind side of the hedge and get going! downhill all the way meant uphill later lol
I got there but where was the deer! tucked around a dogs leg feeding then looking at me! He needs to turn as I was not settled enough for a neck shot thankfully he did.
2 ribs smashed and lungs taken out, he went around 30 yds one spin around and done.
Quick check start the bleeding and back up to the truck, winched him up on the tailgate and a steady drive to where I clean them out.
3 big bucks were feeding as I drove back with your name on them Paul so yes I shot the small one.
It bounced my 100lb scales (should have used the other one)
Happy Spaniels trotting around the garden this morning with a leg each.
