low light and 500 yards. I was annoyed as its rare to find sambar stags fighting. A waste of time trying to get to them as there were a few watchdog hinds above them. Watermarks to **** off those that use my pics elsewhere.

one fair one and the other ordinary,they were having a good go at it.
Why fighting. I thought your rut was 6 months before/after ours?
Sambar do what they want when they want,they are an enigma species and one can see a velvet stag and a hard antler stag on the same day. There is no definitive 'rut' with sambar.There are indicators but they are not like reds roaring on such a date or Fallow croaking the same week every year. Hinds drop when they want,everything is very formal and not structured as the other deer species are.
