Muntjac Buck Of A Lifetime. If Carlsburgh Did Stalking Trips.

So this past week I travelled to Bedfordshire for my annual Munty stalking trip. This is the third year I have been going to the same estate near Luton. Previous trips had produced a silver and a bronze, and last year a gold and a bronze medal so my hopes were high as last year the keeper had found a very big buck showing up in a small wood on his trail cam. Unfortunatly he disapperd as soon as I got there then reappeared five days after I left. All last year and this year during the game season he was not seen. No sightings of him at all since spring last year. The first evening I sat on a high seat overlooking a big wood where a very good buck had been seen by the keeper. On last light he made an appearance at 130 yards and I dropped him on the spot. A cracking old buck that should make a silver. The next morning we had a stalk around on foot but nothing shootable was seen. The keeper left me to watch a likely spot whilst he went to fetch a trail camera to re position it. He arrived half an hour later and told me he had spotted a very good buck on a hedgerow. Off we went with the sun now high in the sky and made a stalk to where we thought the said buck might still be. As we got to a crest of a hill the keeper said there he is. Sure enough about 80 yards on the side of the hedge there was the buck sunning himself in the warm early spring sunshine. Onto the sticks and conformation that it was indeed a very good buck, the shot was away and after a short dash he tumbled to the ground and took his last breath. A steady walk over and to both our astonishment there was the buck that we had tried for last year, recogniseable by the swollen front right knee joint. Hand shakes all around and a fitting end to a very old warior. He will make avery big gold medal and as the keeper said to me you will go a long way untill you shoot one better than him, I would definatley agrree. To top the trip off the last evening we took a trip over to another estate in Essex and I took another cracking and unusual buck with white front legs. This one should make a bronze medal.
