A week from tomorrow I'm going reds hunting. It will, again, be in the Texas Hill Country, Edwards plateau. It has dense brush valleys and some fairly open hill tops. I will be hunting the hill tops, game trails, and some small fields at the bottom of the valleys. Most shots will be under 200yds, most close to 100yds, except on the hill where they might be longer. I'll be hunting with my FN 98, 7x57, 150partitions @2700fps. I will be hunting enclosed blinds. it's been dry lately and some alfalfa hay has been put out. It's around 2000 acers high fenced. I will be hunting a cull red stag. The landowner believes it's an older stag, but it could be a deficient stag also. Anyway, he wants him gone and has given me a "deal." The price of two hinds. He has been seen on several Trophy hunts, but is allusive. I'm 70, and if I shoot him, it will be my last horns. I'm on a budjet, but have budgeted him this year. If I don't shoot him I can go on another hind/doe hunt, but whichever I shoot I'll have plenty of venison. I'll let you know when I return. capt david
