N140 bullet speed

Hi im loading 35.5 grain N140 at the back of a 50 grain nosler ballistic tip lapua case .Its coming out at an average 3409 fps.When you look at the nosler and n140 loading sites it should be way higher velocities than this with this load

Viht site says 33.8 grains should kick out a 51grain bullet at 3566 fps MAX LOAD

Nosler site 34 GRAIN N140 3500 FPS

As would cartridge overall length, and case capacity. All of which affect bullet speed.

whats your barrel length compared to Viht's 22 and nosler's 24?

I would think it's due to barrel length your lower velocity ,

Quite possibly down to barrel length, 25 fps per inch under the Nosler data puts you pretty much bang on and not unreasonable

Run them with that then, my .223 AI runs them at 3350, could go higher but probably won't bother as it's very accurate and it drops things

Viht reloading data is very conservative at best, regardless of barrel length.
You will lose minimum 30fps velocity at over 3'000fps per barrel inch.
