Evening,
I've got some Nosler 150gr Ballistic Tip Hunting bullets to load for a Sako 75 in 308, 22inch 1-10 twist for UK Deer
I have my late fathers Varget recipe, but I dont have any Varget powder left.
I do have RS40 and Viht N140
Both Viht and RS load data suggests a similar loads staring at ~41/42, max ~45/46 grains giving ~2600-2800fps
I dont expect a lot between them but it would be good to know if anyone has used either with this bullet, and what their experiences are.
Cheers Jim

If it helps you, I’m using N140 with a non toxic 150 grain bullet. Very accurate results.

Appreciate that’s not quite comparing apples with apples !

Viht N140 is an excellent powder for 125 and 150 grns. of any make. Just follow the load data and you won’t go wrong…

Used these for years, N140 around 44-45 grains worked for me but do the usual safe build up etc. Good accuracy and ideal for chest shot roe or sika, ideally missing the shoulders if worried about carcass damage. In my sako A7 308

I am running 42.5gn N140 with 150gn Nosler BT - works well for me, straight from the makers website,

FWIW, 45gr of IMR4895 was my go to for these bullets before I moved to Barnes 130gr TTSX years ago.
The 130gr TTSX are my main deer round in 308, can't complain with them at all as they have proved to work very well
Im only looking at the Nosler load as I have a box or 2 in the cupboard to use up

N140 has almost the same burn rate as Varget. I used 43.5 gr of N140 with a 150 bullet for target shooting, it was very accurate out to 600yds, I didn’t get to try it past that
