Looking for advice on which load development to focus on for a 'universal' deer-stalking round in 308.
I have some Lapua brass, primers, N140 powder and a number of...
- Sierra Prohunter 150gr
- Nosler Ballistic Tip 150gr

Here's a thought, check viht's load data, start at the bottom and work up to a safe load in your rifle? 🤔🤔

In all seriousness, just take the time to work up a load for the sake of a handful more rounds. If nothing else, it's shooting in the field and improving marksmanship. I also highly rate the prohunter, along with many other people. Not used the nosler though.

I've worked up the Pro-Hunter and have used them with some success.
Not the Noslers though.

44.5 N140 any 150gn -155gn , Ive used sierra 2125, prohunters, TGK, amax,eldm, lapua scenar, bergers

Seem to go well in a 20” barrel

Ive used up to 47.5 in longer barrels.

Difficult to get enough N140 in a 308 case to overpressurise and also seat a 150/155 gn bullet

You dont need to go mental. 44-45gn is plenty to get the speed upnfor nice expansion

N140 also good for 130gn copper and up to 165gn sierra

Thanks.
The benefit of N140 being good behind a 130gr copper is great (I have some Barnes TTSX on this weight, and imagine moving to these once my stocks of Sierra and Nosler run out).
