saw three and shot three.
Started out about 8 o'clock Thursday evening.
Went to two small farms first and didn't see a thing, strange really because
You can almost guarantee to see Charlie, but nothing showing.
Then moved on to the third farm which isn't known for having many fox's.
First large field nothing, moved to the gateway which overlooks the farm
and a quick scan with the lamp spotted Charlie about a hundred yards or so
in the middle of the field, quick call on the call to get some interest from the fox and
the shot was take and he dropped minus his lungs.
we headed off to the hedge, so i had another scan
with the lamp from the top of the bank and spotted Charlie two fields away and say that it was over 350
yards from us. This was the test for the call if ever there was one. I gave a couple of loud calls at first for five or ten seconds to see if he was interested and turned
the lamp back on. Interested was an understatement he was fifty yards in front of us the other side of the hedge in less
than a minute. Because of the hedge and pig fencing he couldn't get through, the lamp went off, i said to the others
he will come around to the left through the gateway, which he did, another call just to get him to stop long enough to get the shot, that’s the second of the night in the bag. a large dog fox, the biggest and heaviest I have seen.
my scales only went to 27, 1/2 lb. and he was hitting the stopper. Good job i took the camera, this was a lovely clean
well-fed fox in top condition. at this point we thought that was it for the night so started of towards the hedge again
to put Charlie in his final resting place. we then moved to the last field but nothing was showing so decided
to call it a night, a quick cigarette and a chat about how well the second fox came in and then turned for home.
as i looked for the other gateway with the lamp we spotted another set of eyes on the bank about a 180 yards from us,
minding his own worming, i gave him a couple of blast with the call, i put lamp back on but nothing, scanned around to the left and there he was, sat directly downwind of us at about 60 yards watching us, he was duly dispatched with a 55 gain vmax straight between the eyes, and i do mean right between the eyes.
This was another dog but he had no tale which looked really strange. on closer inspection we came to the conclusion
this had been treated by a vet and at some point had been released back into the countryside.
the last two fox's bolted in to us like steam trains at distance so you don’t need to blow your lungs out calling
them with this call. ordered one more yesterday for my lad
ive just landed 650 acres through a recommendation from one farm manager to another so
not a bad couple of days for me,,, atb, mike
