New Ecodesign Stove - smokes and difficult to light WATCH OUT

I’ve re read your post and your probably more experienced with stoves than most since you have ran a clear view for some time

So can someone explain to me how lighting my stove from the top will stop it from blowing smoke out the door hours after it’s been lit and fully warm 👀,I’ve simply swapped old working great stove for new defra approved crap, the top plate inside defra fires restrict the flow of smoke allowing some to come out the open door and the way you lite the fire will not alter that

Personally i can’t as I only run my woodburner. The thing is they have been making these for a long time and if it was a design issue then there would be more complaints.
so it seems to be a general that it is either blocked, you say the chimney is clear
Bad fitment
or a Friday Stove.
The only other thing I can add is I used to have a thing on my roof which kept the birds out but it used to get clogged up And have me the same issue. Took it off and problem solved.

sorry can’t be more help. But it is intrigueing and hope you can sort it.

The problem has been sorted, but I don’t think defra would approv 😁

I’m guessing this was directed at me, I was only trying to help you out.
You did say your stove was hard to light and let smoke into the room.
Not after it’s been burning for hours though.

Never said mine was hard to light,it’s totally opposite, easy to light and burns great,my post was not aimed at you .
ive had stoves for probably 20 years,I cut trees for a living, half of the answers on here are basically what google- YouTube says , I’ll crack on doing what I do with my badly fitted stove that I’m lighting wrong 😂

I’m getting you and the guy who wrote post mixed up.
He said it was hard to light and smokes.
You said yours blows smoke out the doors after it’s hot, and lighting it from the top works , I have to do it otherwise I get a smoke filled room .

Sorry for ignoring everyone's suggestions. Thanks alot, but this thread was meant as a warning to others not a request for help. I've made up my mind the stove is rubbish. To re-iterate as follows:

I have a tall house with several flues going into the same stack. All the flues are clean and unobstructed. same height, same draw, same dimensions, same pot Both stoves were installed by the same installer, one is an un-eco Clearview which works fine and one is a new ecodesign which doesn't and smokes into the room whatever I do. Its as simple as that.

I can basically get a multifuel Clearview going from cold in about ten minutes with no smoke entering the room at all - one log, a few bits of kindling, one twist of newspaper, open both massive vents and the ash tray for turbo-draft, one match, shut the door and away you go. The new stove needs much more kindling and babysitting to get going (in the ways suggested above) and still smokes into the room. Yes I have tried priming the chimney with burning newspaper, even an electric heater. Operating a stove used to be (and should be) a simple process.

The installer is as baffled as I am. Its Scotland so luckily the rules are less strict. I have modified the stove to facilitate air flow but I may just cut my losses and buy a second hand Clearview.

I get this problem sometimes if the wind is blowing from North east, I Made up a Cone which attaches to a Hot air gun and goes over the Spin wheel, so that I can open It and force Hot air through the Fire, it works a treat a quick blast of hot air for about a minute is all you need.
