Bought the 4x18x44 a couple of weeks back to put on a rimmie, just missed out on the newer models, not bad optics really, better than the mtc,s and nikkos i,ve had in the past.

I've just put one on my rimmie - FFP. How do you find it? I find it a bit long on my CZ453 - the open bolt almost touches the eyepiece but I'm going to give it a chance and see. O you use the zoom, or just leave it on one mag?

I found the bolt on my cz455 catching the zoom ring so bought higher mounts, use mine on 8 mag mostly,go higher if i just have a plink at targets.

I bought a falcon scope years ago so I would be FFP mil/mil with all scopes and it was absolute rubbish wouldn't hold zero etc , so returned it and all the relevant questions was lucky to sell the replacement .

Perhaps you got a dud. It happens. These scopes are made in China, but to their specifications. This seems to be the norm at this price point these days - even by the large well known manufacturers. If you want something made in Japan or Germany - you are going to pay a lot more.

Had some very interesting conversations with Chinese exhibitors at IWA this year
lotsbof very decent looking scopes on their stands
all unbranded including a few that looked extremely familiar....if you know what I mean!!

i have some samples on way for destruction testing on centre fire rifles and hope to bring some more in
some of the glass and features were exceptional for the money

If you go onto AliExpress most of the scopes there have very similar specs - with slightly different looks/furniture on them. There are very few OEM manufacturers - and they all build most of the lower end scopes you see in the shops. They build based around their existing designs to the price point the customer requires so they are not all necessarily the same even if they come from the same factory.

Check out Discovery scopes too. Some good specifications.

And what are the average prices for a good scope?

That's difficult to quantify without knowing the application or expectation of quality. What I would consider a good might be considered excellent by another or only adequate by someone else. Fixed mag will be less expensive than variable mag with target or ballistic turrets for example.
