New Member’s First Fox

A new shooter, @lewis01, joined the forum a while ago and mentioned his rough location in his introduction. I sent him a message as I live close by.

Since then he has had his FAC granted, and we have been out together a few times on rabbits, as well as one stalk. He has also joined my syndicate and has put in a lot of practice with the rifle.

On Friday night we went out foxing.

Hopefully you enjoy the footage. Apologies if the captions are a little quick, but I wanted to explain what was happening as the evening unfolded.

I had the thermal spotter and the call, and Lewis had my rifle. We had already been out for a couple of hours, including a quick zero check beforehand and some practice off sticks. When the chance finally came, it was taken off a wall rather than the sticks, so there was a bit of extra pressure on him.

It is worth watching the video through.

Nicely done. I think a lot of us can remember the days when the adrenaline was like the footage...trying to calm yourself before the shot...taking ages to find the fox...just about to shoot and it moves :) Good on you for taking him under your wing 👍

17HMR, so incredibly forgiving in terms of recoil but it demands an accurately placed hit. My 22-250 is currently without a moderator as I stupidly sold that in a package with my .223 REM.
Good shooting with the 17hmr , especially the last one at that distance, shows you it can still drop them with good shot placement

Thanks for putting that up. Nice, exciting watch. Never knew if you had spoofed us with the title, and he managed the double :norty:
When you're starting out and using someone else's rifle, it's never as easy as when you have your own familiar kit and some experience under your belt.

An excellent evening out. Watching it back I was on the edge of my seat also. But in the moment, especially being new to shooting, there was a fair bit of hesitation of when is the right time or distance but that will come with experience. My main thought was keeping it safe. It does help having @WalkedUp there to reaffirm my thoughts and decisions. It did make me go out and purchase a .17hmr after seeing how good they are to start out with and the capabilities at distance!

Thankyou all for your kind comments :)
