Hi there, I’ve lurked a bit picking up bits of advice on this forum so I thought I’d do the decent thing;
I’m a not quite 50 keen fisher and shooter all my life, I run a small pheasant shoot (small 450 birds for friends) and I’ve got a .223 for fox control over a decade ago. I’m no long range marksman, most foxes are inside 100 yards - my ground is in Powys it’s hilly and all of it it walked sheep farming country. I’ve stalked foxes in daylight and shot them inside fifty yards, so for a big bloke I’m able to move quietly......why not shoot something I can eat?
So this year to go with the other sports I enjoy; sea trout fishing, salmon, pike, bass, pheasants, foxes and annoying my two sons......I thought I’d learn to stalk deer. There’s not a huge amount round here in Wales but I’m only 10 miles from Welshpool and forty minutes from south Shropshire.....as I drive to the north of Scotland salmon fishing it’d be worthwhile to take a rifle for when there’s ’nae watter’ which has occurred to me in the twenty years I’ve been doing that.....
I have my eye on a Sako 6.5 x 55 Swedish at the local RFD and hope to get the Ok by the time lockdown meaningfully ends......
Cheers!
Andy
