Hi,

I'm a casual deer stalker based in the West Midlands, UK but I'm getting interested in other types of shooting as time has gone on.I have been on a few guided deer stalks over the last 3 years to build up experience and completed my DSC1 at the end of 2023. I have no rifles yet (waiting for FAC process to go through) but I hope to have a .243 and .308 once its gone through.

Ahh that sounds like I've made a mistake then. I'm still pretty new to stalking/stalking in all honesty and based it off what the people who I have stalked with used. Happy to learn what others are using.

I take it you have put in for your FAC?
Which authority do you come under?
I am West Mercia.

On the rifles, they may knock you back on the 308 to start with and just let you have a 243.

If you have not shot a 308, the recoil can be a bit off putting.

A 6.5 Creedmore or 6.5 * 55 (Swede) would be a bit softer.

My application is with Staffordshire police. Yeah its on my FAC, so we will see how that goes then.

I have shot a 308 a few times (my first few stalks) but have mainly shot a 243 after that.

Thanks for the suggestion too, I will keep it in mind.
