New-new version EL Range with updated objective lens covers?

Hi all,

I currently have some Swarovski EL 10x42 with the old rubber objective covers. These are the type that keep getting lost and Swarovski always very kindly replace them for free.

I am planning to buy some EL Range 10x42 at some point. However, the updated objective covers (according to everyone I know who has them) rather than getting lost, get broken, requiring the binoculars to be returned to Swarovski. I spoke to Swarovksi about this at the game fair a couple of months ago and they said that they are going to bring out a third version of the lens covers which can get neither lost nor broken. I forgot to ask the guy when this new version might come out. I popped into Bushwear in Perth last week and they knew nothing about the new version but recognised the problem with the existing design and would welcome an upgrade.

So, does anyone have any intelligence on when the new version might be coming out?

Kind regards,

Carl

I have Gen2 10x42's and have never yet broken the lens covers. Also they are similar shape to a crows foot - meaning they do not have to go back to be replaced.

Hi Cawdor,

That's helpful. Thank you. So, if you were to break the covers, Swaro could just send you new ones and you could fit them yourself?

Kind regards,

Carl

Yes that's absolutely correct. My mate lost one and he was sent another free of charge. He just popped it on himself. I can send you a photo tomorrow if you're interested?

A photo would be fabulous. Thanks, Cawdor. Kind regards. Carl.

I have had two of these MK 2 front covers break in the last 18 moths, mine do get some hammer though

Hi deerstalker. That fits with what many people say. However, I guess if you can change them (which I didn't know until Cawdor told me) then it's not too big a headache?

Not sure what to do now. Might wait a little bit and see if the new version comes out soon. Or call Swaro!

Best,

Carl

They take seconds to change and is no bother. Swaro send replacement covers within a few days no questions asked. Many people will say Lieca are better but I had both brands in my hands one evening and Swaro are much brighter at last light and that's what matters to me - so I bought them. I would like to try them against the new Zeiss as they weren't out 18 months ago.
