New Rifle -What you do before use

Just got my new Tikka 3x Ace target in 6.5 Creed.

What do you do before use, can't see anything in manual.

What is worrying me more are the attached pictures of the barrel.

Could this just be crud after manufacturing to protect the action? Looks like pitting and cracks.

Anyone else who just got one of these checked before use?

I love a borescope - and I think yours is showing you some crud.
As everyone else has said - clean thoroughly, wipe out with a couple of dry clean patches.
Then have another look...

After a few patches, is that copper fouling and blue from heat, the scratch marks are just at the throat area, looks horrendous to me, whole reason I borescoped it was to monitor barrel after my Ruger showed cracks/pitting and rust. Still shooting really well though . How many rounds are used during proofing?

This all looks like bits of thread and some oil.

There is nothing here that looks even slightly worrying.

First photo looks quite a lot like scrapings off the side of the cleaning rod. Can happen if you’re pushing it in and it’s not dead straight. Check the sides of your rod for witness marks.

The rest looks pretty normal

Get some grinding paste on a patch and give it a good scrubbing then throw the bore scope away.
If you don't want rust in the barrel push a patch through when you bring the cold rifle into the warm home to remove condensation.

Did that with the Ruger, did help greatly, guns are kept inside and always cleaned and oiled after use, rust and pitting on the Ruger was a shock, ignorance is bliss as they say 😁

I was told each Sako/Tikka gets accuracy tested with 3-5 shot, after proof. Not sure if that is true.
In new rifles I would mechanically clean the barrel, maybe polish lightly but no chemical cleaners. Maybe another clean after around ten shots then shoot normal.

Solvol Autosol used sparingly works well for that first clean after proof, and the occasional removal of carbon thereafter.
Wouldn't use it regularly, though, or JB paste.

I always buy new rifles and follow the same process. Firstly give the barrel a proper clean, a good scrub with bronze brush and fluid then patch until clean, all using a bore guide.

I then do the shoot one, clean barrel for first 10 rounds. Maybe overkill but works for me and never had an issue and all my rifles shoot fine. Having spent plenty on each setup, it is time and money well spent.
