New rifle

Hello

I'm looking to buy a new rifle (30.06) and would be keen to get the rifle and scope from the same person as a package so that we can negotiate on price.

I am considering either a Sako or a Blaser, with some decent glass on the top.

Has anyone got any good recommendations for a gun shop that might be able to help?

Cheers

If you want a Blaser, call Dan Pool at Braces of Bristol... Top man, he will be able to give you a good deal.

mjf,

I recently bought a Blaser, Swarovski & mod package from Greenfield guns of Salisbury and got a really good deal sent to me via RFD. They have a website Home | Greenfields Guns and if you give them a call I arranged my package with Matt.

ATB 243 Stalker.

Both Ivythorn Sporting and Corinium range state that they allow you to try before you buy. Corinium for Blaser, Ivythorn for Sako and Blaser.

I had a fair deal from Rob at R and B sporting in Ross on Wye.

Not one of the OP's stated makes but the Sauer Wolverine Greenfields have got advertised in .30-06 could be a good buy if they will do a deal on a scope.

Id recommend trying before buying if you can, I set out with heart set on a mauser in 30-06 but after handling and trying that, a blaser, and a Sauer I went for a Schultz & Larsen. All the riflles were accurate and well built, the main reason was handling, the S&L just felt better in the shoulder for me. Steve Beatty at Ivythorne get my vote for pressure free and very accommodating service.

I presume you are buying new? Braces have a good rep as does Steve at Ivythorne.
I would seriously advise trying these before buying. It is a lot of money not to be happy with. Both of the above have ranges.

Ivythorn Sporting has to be the way to go. Steve Beaty is a true gent and will help you out with none of the pushy salesmanship you get in some other places, plus he has a range on site, a line up of top drawer optics, moderators, slings and ammo and has a huge amount of knowledge on all things shooting.

Check out the S&L rifles while you're up there as well ;)

Some good suggestions here, thanks everyone.

I'm not ruling out S&L or Sauer, and would be happy to try a few different models before buying. I don't have any first hand experience with S&L, but am familiar with the Sauer 202 and 404.

good to have an open mind! As to the S&L i was sold on the handling, build quality and lovely walnut and solid steel (no plastic components), a joy to shoot and very accurate. The idea of a switch barrel was interesting but not a necessity to me, but its useful. If you do look at them, you'll may find yourself going up a grade in wood, Steve at Ivthorne was more than helpful with that, getting pictures of the available higher grade stocks sent through for perusal.

Speak to Ollie at William Evans in Bisley. They stock all brands blaser, Sauer, Mauser, S+L etc. They will do a deal as well and they have as many ranges as you want there mate

cheers Steve

MJF, firstly great choice of calibre, nothing wrong with the Sako as you know all too well:-D
Blaser, as you have seen is a very nice gun, but it won't make any difference to the deer when hit with a 180 grain bullet!
I have only ever heard good things about Braces of Bristol, although i appreciate its not handy to where to live.
Cheers

as suggested green fields, very good service and fair prices, they even took my styre rifle in px,no one else wanted a styre prohunter not even that large three/four store gun shop and they are main dealers avoid them like the plague
