'New' Swedish Mauser

Just thought I'd share a few shots of my latest addition.

It's a Carl Gustaf M96 Swedish Mauser. Calibre is 6.5 x 55 and she's cleaned up pretty well.

Came with a nice 'Söderin' peep sight that I've also stripped amd cleaned.

The rifle action, bolt, trigger plate and magazine was caked in solidified grease which challenged my ultrasonic cleaner some!

Looking forward to getting her out and zeroing.

There is a book that has the history of all things swedish mauser in the For Collectors only series Joe Poyer author, well worth the money to obtain. You have a nice rifle sir.

Few more images.

Now l remember, just a while back you were asking about a cleaning rod for an m96 you were thinking of buying, did you find a rod ?

I suppose for now it will have to be factory ammunition until you get into reloading that’s if you want to go down that route.

Yes, homeloading will be the way to match the elevation numbers on the sight. So, I'll need some kit...

And yes, a US pal of mine has bought and posted one to me.

I’ve looked at the Swedish target rifles but with older eyes l decided that they weren’t really for me so went down the scoped rifle route.

I’m glad you managed to find the missing cleaning rod you needed to make the rifle complete, now all you have to do is shoot it, they are a lovely rifle to use and so accurate.

I have two at the moment, both scoped, one is a Carl Gustaf 1915 and the other is a Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf 1899, with the right load they are so accurate and a pleasure to shoot, I’ve never used mil surp ammo so can’t comment on its quality.
I never tire of shooting them.

Any recommendations for factory ammo?

One thing I'm a little uncertain of is that I have to pull the back of the bolt back a little to flip over the safety. Am I missing something?

Lovely!

Is it conditioned for deer? And if so, will you try stalking with it?

I realize that is not everyone's idea of fun, but I truly enjoy hunting/stalking with open sights, especially peep/aperture sights... That one you have (I assume of military competition origin?) looks super strong and robust and able to be adjusted without tools...

Either way, looks like a lovely functional piece of history.

Very nice . I have a 96 myself , one of my favourites ................ probably because it's one of the most accurate military surplus rifles I own . Enjoy .

This is my intention, yes. It's a very robust sight with strong elevation and windage adjustments.

I am going to cut some different front sight aperture 'sprongs' (???) to find a preference.
