I know many wont be buying many of the V8s on this list but the Ford Ranger, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Hilux, VW Amarok.

"A buyer of a Range Rover could be charged as much as £5,490 – up from £2,745 – in that first year of ownership. Chancellor Rachel Reeves told MPs in her Budget statement: “To help drive the transition to electric vehicles the government is strengthening incentives to purchase EVs by widening the differentials in Vehicle Excise Duty First Year Rates between EVs and hybrids or internal combustion engine cars."

How nice of them to 'help' the transition.

I bought my current family car, a BMW 530d Touring, at 10 months old and I am consequently paying the additional VED for that up until it is five years old because of the original purchase price of the vehicle.

I could not afford to buy that car from new, not that I would buy a new car, so could someone please explain to me why I am having to pay additional tax because someone else could afford to buy it from new?

Surprised to see the Jeep, Ranger,Grenadier,HiLux,VW & Land Cruiser on the list as i would think a lot of farmers & country type folk are owners or future purchasers.
It's all part of the green grift pushed by the UN & then implemented by their puppets in each Western country.

Socialism? Or Musk? Free enterprise is great especially when you try and manipulate a democratically elected Government to then screw the customers of businesses that compete with yours

More scam nonsense meanwhile the loonies are building this in my back garden no mention of the eco destruction it will create not including all the diesel burning heavy plant compared to a few cars. Lancashire windfarm cable plan accepted despite concerns

Compulsory purchase and 6/7 years at best of disruption. Madness
AND, when the cable burns out ............ which they do, Just like the very last job I was on in the Wirral ............... this cable runs the length of the country & can send power the opposite direction back northwards, A burn out necessitates a survey to find the source of the problem, then a couple of weeks to build a work camp, a couple of miles of temporary road mat, then wait for a lot of Italian "Engineers" to come & dig it up & re joint .

I dont have a problem with electric cars as a thing, what wouldn't suit me and what I dont like about them is -

The cost.

The lack of infrastructure for them.

Having to change my routine to account for the charging.

The hypocrisy and greenwashing lies about them.

Assuming this only applies to vehicles purchased after April 2025 with a list price exceeding £40.000 or is it based on emissions alone it’s all very confusing as I’ve recently purchased a new pickup is the government going too change the taxation class on existing commercial LGV or will they remain as is.

A few years back, well, more like 20 or 30 years ago, £40,000 was an expensive, high end car.

Now it's a top spec Vauxhall Astra....

So this oynon new motors ?
Tax on older pickups stays same ?
I suppose existing owners of pickup won’t know until the VLD reminders drop on the door mat.
Yet another tax by labour the only consolation is it will apply to those who voted labour.
