New VED Rates

It is all due to the Prime Ministers and Chancellors . We now want ones with "Big brains and Little Egos" as unfortunately over the last 50 years we have had ones with the opposit attributes.

Look at the NHS Blood hepatitis import scandal of the 70s
Post Office Managers Fraud allegations and Horizon IT scandal of 15years ago
HS2 Rail Fiasco starting at the wrong end and still having to sort out the Northof England Ifrastructure Services after cancelling the line North of Birmingham and still spending £billions.
Electric Vehicles without having the charging Capacity Infrastructure.
We can go on for ages, all still ongoing.

All they want to do is Spend/ Waste money because they have not thought it through properly "Ego's bigger than Brains"?

Surprised to see the Jeep, Ranger,Grenadier,HiLux,VW & Land Cruiser on the list as i would think a lot of farmers & country type folk are owners or future purchasers.
It's all part of the green grift pushed by the UN & then implemented by their puppets in each Western country.
What I find really disappointing is the predilection of all manner of eco political do gooders for airline flights that deposit co2 in the upper atmosphere, the very worst place for it. Surely an immediate phase out of carbon fuels for aircraft is far more justified than promoting pathetic electric vehicles?

AND, when the cable burns out ............ which they do, Just like the very last job I was on in the Wirral ............... this cable runs the length of the country & can send power the opposite direction back northwards, A burn out necessitates a survey to find the source of the problem, then a couple of weeks to build a work camp, a couple of miles of temporary road mat, then wait for a lot of Italian "Engineers" to come & dig it up & re joint .
Not to worry it’s only 26km and apparently the trench the width of a motorway….

I dont have a problem with electric cars as a thing, what wouldn't suit me and what I dont like about them is -

The cost.

The lack of infrastructure for them.

Having to change my routine to account for the charging.

The hypocrisy and greenwashing lies about them.

Cost fair enough they are expensive.

Infrastructure wise down south there’s plenty probably where the majority of customer sit. Up Norf it’s non existent and very few cars so begs the question what’s the point.

There’s no changes to routine you charge at night. Unless you have a long journey in which case you’re a mug for buying an EV.

Evs are great but they never will be a mass solution ever merely a tool so why were bothering god only knows. Should be focussing on hydrogen or more efficient ice cars.

In the end doesn’t matter what type of car you drive the grubberment just don’t want public ownership. Bunch of turds.

When through the drive for us to own EV’s and the VED has lowered the government income they will have to tax them more to increase revenue then you’ll be taxed on your vehicle weight, the bigger posher EV’s weigh more so they can still claim to be taxing the rich to look after the poor as they do so well.

That would not work unless you could get an international agreement, and no country is going to tax its own airlines out of business. You might be surprised to learn that the carbon footprint of an airline passenger (per passenger mile) is considerably less than that of a passenger on a ship.

I've yet to find a charging point in any of the woodlands that I stalk and the fields and ranges where I pursue other shooting sports , EVs are not really suitable for rural activities and other land based industries.

I've yet to find a diesel pump in any of the woodlands where I stalk, so no difference there.....

I would have thought that in rural areas, for local travel, the ability to "refuel" one's vehicle at home, rather than drive miles to a filling station, would be a significant attraction to owning an EV.

Not really no

Two thoughts on EV’s.

1) You’re just moving the point of combustion to produce the energy you’re using and the national grid involves extensive losses so is rather inefficient.

2) get a tow bar fitted and buy a diesel generator to tow along which can run and constantly charge your EnviroMENTALly sound vehicle.

Haven't you rather overlooked that filling up with a tank full of diesel only takes a few minutes and the lack of three phase electric supplies to rural properties?

But aircraft deposit CO2 in the upper atmosphere, if governments are serious about net zero carbon fuels for aircraft have to go. Planting trees and other offsetting can have no impact whatsoever on upper atmosphere carbon.

Why would you need a 3 phase supply?
I don't know much about EVs, but I do know that several rural neighbours of mine have them, and charge them at home. It can't be that complicated, surely?

Charging a Ford Transit from 20% power using a domestic plug only takes 26 hours to get to 100% charge and in this cold weather a range of 110 miles.
Definitely the way forward 😂

Yes but how far can your neighbour get on a charge, I have a friend who has just returned his EV to the garage as he's not getting anywhere near the mileage he was told when he bought it, I'm a fan of EV's but there is a lot to sort out before I would even consider one and think there is years of sorting out to do.

From what I have seen around here, they seem to be quite popular with older drivers in rural areas. They are charging at home, only using the vehicle a few days a week, and doing local journeys only.

I also do not have a problem with them , I just don’t want one !

I do however have a problem with being forced to do something especially something that is nonsense !

One look at then would be enough to tell a sensible person there not meant for that. Christ you might as well criticise a Ferrari for its inability to get on a gravel road 😂

It’s a ridiculous argument.

Do you, be nice if we all had an off road parking spot with power, but most don't, and nobody does in this road.

If you don’t have a drive and off road parking you probably can’t afford an EV (joking) or you live in London so you can afford a super charger for your one charge a week.

It’s really not a big deal.
