The issue for me is cost.
About 10years from retirement.

I simply cannot afford a new EV that can match what my Discovery does.
Even then there are no facilities available where I can pull up whilst towing what ever and plug in to charge.
I pay nothing for for my Disco, paid £2.75k 13 years ago.
It’s getting a new chassis and bodywork attended to circa £7.5k in the new year.
I intend to run it into the ground.
Done 65k in the 13years and only partly the way through my second set of tyres.
My trade off is that I don’t fly that much. In those 13 years, 6 return European flights and one family holiday to Disney World.

Do you have a source for that? I'd be grateful to have a read.

I'm not saying it takes less energy to make an electric car, quite the opposite. We can follow the laws of physics as we know combustion engine cars spend their lives using their fuel at approximately 25% efficiency. 25% of the potential energy in that petrol makes the car go forwards. The other 75% is lost as heat, noise, friction, emissions, etc.

An electric car is in the region of around 80% efficient at turning its fuel (electricity in the battery pack) into making the car go. The other 20% is lost as heat, noise, friction, etc.
That's why an electric car that took more energy to produce initially, can end up generating less pollution over its lifetime, as it's not spending its lifetime throwing 3 quarters of its potential energy away into things that aren't making the car move. It hasn't broken the laws of physics because it hasn't created more energy than was ever put into it, it's just wasted less along the way.
 
So how many 100% electric vans on the market today can get from London to Liverpool and back with a full load on one refuel ?
Without being able to match the range of your average diesel van I fail to see how an electric van can cope with the needs of a business that may require a vehicle to travel circa 400 miles in an 8 hr shift

Vans aren’t cars, but with plenty now offering 250 miles or so it won’t be long
Tesla cyber truck is over 450 and tows feking loads

And they're well over $100k a piece.

Cyber truck is a gimmick for the wealthy. Have you seen the electrical system on the Cyber truck? Ironically (not) it's the same voltage system that is planned for the Mars colony. Can you say "crowd source testing" of a future concept? It's clever though.
 
My Boss told me to nurse my Hilux along and don't expect another pre enjoyed 4 year old soon yesterday.
