I'm a complete novice, looking to get my FAC this year, signed up for my Deer stalking 1 course later this year, I'm planning on getting a .243 calibre. Recently retired from the Fire service and looking at shooting as a hobby. Currently a probationary member at a local rifle club, have permission on land for vermin shooting. Will add a .17hmr for that. Looking to go deer stalking on a regular basis.
Heading to the shooting show in Birmingham on Fri 18th Feb , absolutely buzzing!

Cheers

Good choice on the .243 - lots around second-hand as a starter rifle.

Did you splash out on anything at the Shooting Show?
There was so much at the show, that I kept my wallet in my pocket. I was like a kid in a sweetie shop!
I have however decided on the 6.5creedmoor rather than the .243
My FAC is applied for , at least 16weeks to wait.

So a wee update since i joined, a short 184 days after applying, for my initial grant I'm now in possession of my FAC. And Shotgun cert
Joined 2 rifle clubs to get range practice whilst I was waiting. 1 is indoor rimfire only, other has access to a 300m outdoor range. So I can try most of the club calibres.
Completed my DSC1 back in April
Have taken my first few deer and gralloched them. (Still need more practice doing that)
I went to the shooting show in Birmingham and the Scottish game fair, but without having my FAC at the time , I didn't get to purchase any rifles. (not many deals at shows anyway)
I'm looking into getting more permissions now I have my FAC and am also training a 12week old pup in the noble art of gundog. I'll also start the purchasing of my FAC rifles. Plus also looking for some shooting buddies.

Looks like I may be moving to Fife. What's the club with access to 300m? Any clubs with access to longer ranges ?
